Remember the Lord's day. - Exodus 20 (Part 6)

Remember the Lord

Exo 20:8 — Exo 20:11

Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. [9] Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: [10] But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: [11] For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Have you heard this, "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy."

SABBATH DAY

In the original Hebrew Sabbath means "to rest"

The Lord is very strict when it comes to the sabbath, He commanded His nation to remember this day in the Old, New testament and up to this day

Hebrews 10:25 "Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching."

Surprisingly the word REMEMBER in Exodus 20:8 and FORSAKING in Hebrew 10:25 have a synonym in meaning, it is "Remember" and "not leaving behind".

REALITY AGAINST THE TRUTH IN EXODUS 20:8 AND HEBREW 10:25

If in the old Testament, if someone is working on sabbath day whatever his or her reason(s) the punishment will be death by throwing stone until the defenders die.

Today, the sabbath day or SUNDAY in our time is not the REST DAY for the Lord. Mostly they give their time in window shopping, going to other places, soul searching but not in the place where we can find our soul resting with God, and most Sundays for others is commonly known as FAMILY DAY. A day which they can spend their time with the family like going out of town, eating in a fancy restaurant, shopping, and many more.

Imagine, if we are still living in the days of commands and not in grace Romans 6:14 "For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace." How many Christians and non-Christians today that their body and blood were on the road?

TRUTH: Many were left behind and didn't remember the services of God because of things that they believe are more important than God.

THEY BELIEVE THAT THERE'S A LOT OF SUNDAY TO WORSHIP THE LORD, AND THEY CAN RETRIEVE THE DAYS OF THEIR ABSENCES FOR THE LORD, BUT THE DAY WHICH THEY HAVE FOR THE FAMILY IS VERY UNUSUAL.

But not knowing, what time had passed can't bring you back to receive what the Lord in stored for you in that day.

REASONS OF THE LORD WHY HE COMMANDS TO HAVE A DAY FOR HIM ALONE:

The Lord has the reasons why He wants us to remember and not to leave behind His day. What is it?

1. The Lord wants our whole heart, soul, mind, and strength to be with Him ONLY.

- The Lord is a jealous God. He doesn't want half love, soul, mind, and strength. He wants the whole of us. So then in giving the time and day of the sabbath by His children for Him, it is showing our SELF-DENIAL.

Self Denial is very important on sabbath days, Exodus 20:9-10

[9] Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: [10] But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:

Is this verse is only applicable for the jews ONLY, or us as a believer of Christ?

TRUTH: IT IS NOT GODS WILL FOR US (BELIEVERS AND UNBELIEVERS) TO HAVE WORK EVERY SUNDAY. IT IS THE DECEPTION OF THE DEVIL.

Because we need money, we accept his offers without knowing this is his trap for us to forsake God's day.

Therefore, we are blinded by this lie of the devil.

2. The Lord remembers His Children, then He wants also to be remembered by His children.

Psalms 8:4 "What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?"

- There is no time and day that the Lord won't and can't remember His people.

If the Lord remembers His people every second, minute, and hour... Every day, why do we cant do the same thing?

How jealous is Lord that He asked just for a day but we can't give what He wants?

He wants us to be free in just a day for us to remember Him regardless of what standing we are right now before the Lord.

SABBATH FOR JEWS AND SUNDAYS FOR US (NON-JEWS) ARE MADE FOR US TO REMEMBER HIS GOODNESS, FAITHFULNESS, LOVINGKINDNESS, GRACE, LOVE, AND MERCY FOR US IN A WHOLE WEEK AND GIVE HIM ALL PRAISES AND GLORY!

Psalms 105:5 "Remember his marvellous works that he hath done; his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth;"

The believers in Old Testament times do this when the sabbath day comes. Like what Moses did to all Israelites in the wilderness, Ezrah when he encourage the people to build up the wall.

In New Testament times, they doing gathering together every day, but most especially every Sunday. (WHEN WE READ THE WORD "FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK").

3. The Lord wants to have fellowship with His children, and with his children with Him and with brethren.

1 Corinthians 1:9 "God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord."

1 John 1:7 "But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin."

- Through fellowship with brethren, we also show that we have fellowship with God.

We cannot say that we have fellowship with God but we can't reach the brethren by exhorting them in faith, encouraging, caring, and loving them.

That's why Hebrews 10:25 says we should not leave behind the "assembly" of ourselves together means fellowship, because in fellowshipping we can express our love toward one another, we can exhort, encourage them in faith.

Brethren,

Today, we have a new normal form of assembling as Christian because of the pandemics we face. We sometimes, gather via Zoom Meeting, Messenger Group Call, FB Live, and uploading some videos on Youtube, but hopefully, God sees us that we serving Him the way we served Him before.

TO GOD BE THE GLORY
