PSALM
4
This chapter was a prayer of King David to God. King David was not only known as a man after God’s own
heart but he was also known as a man of prayer.
In his prayer we
can know what situation David was in; his heart was always open to God when
praying.
In praying, we can feel the honest, severe demand of King David for the answer of God.
He prayed as:
1. He never hides
the content of his heart to God.
2. He never prayed
just to impress God.
3. He never prayed
in man’s way.
In ways how King
David prayed to God, he never experiences that God never answers him in prayer. He
always saw the goodness, faithfulness of God through prayer.
WHAT
WAS THE SITUATION OF KING DAVID WHY HE PRAYED PSALM 4?
Psalm 4:1 “Hear me
when I call, O God of my righteousness: thou hast enlarged me when I was
in distress; have mercy upon m and hear my prayer.”
King David was in distress. He was in extreme anxiety,
sorrow, or pain.
The distressed king David experience put him on:
1. A situation that he never knows what action he will
do next.
2. On a situation that pushes him to sin against God.
3. In a situation that leads him to step back and leave God.
WHAT ARE THE
REASONS FOR KING DAVID’S DISTRESS?
1. He experienced grief because of men that put God into shame and longing for leasing even they already knew who is God, and what God did to their lives.
Psalm 4:2 “O ye sons of men, how long will ye turn my glory into shame? how long will ye love vanity, and seek after leasing? Selah.”
The word VANITY here means emptiness, vain and the word LEASING means idol.
King David could not take what men doing to God who saves and redeemed them in the hands of their enemies.
They forget God and turned their eyes on other gods.
2. He experienced humiliation by men that were around him,
because of his faith in God.
Psalm 4:6 “There be many that say, Who will shew us any good? LORD, lift thou the light of thy countenance upon us.”
Surprisingly, men that humiliating King David are men that
also have the same faith as God before.
They speak like they don’t experience the goodness and
the faithfulness of God; Like they were not saved and redeemed by God.
BUT IN ALL OF
THESE KING DAVID DID THE RIGHT THING
1. He put his trust in the Lord. Psalm 4:5 “Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your
trust in the LORD.”
2. He rejoiced in
the Lord. Psalm 4:7 “Thou hast put
gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased.”
HOW KING DAVID
TRUST IN THE LORD?
1. He did not let himself be like them, although people
around him encouraged him to be like them. Psalm
4:3
“But know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the LORD
will hear when I call unto him.”
2. He learns to still and let the mighty work of God
works in him. Psalm 4:4 “Stand in awe,
and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.”
Though people around him push him to sin and do what they
were doing to God.
RESULT OF
TRUSTING AND REJOICING OF KING DAVID TO GOD:
Psalm 4:8 “I will both lay me down in peace, and
sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.”
King David did not stay in his distress condition, but
God gives him divine peace.
The peace that comes to the Lord, sleeps without worries and
doubt.
Brethren,
What situation you were in? Do you feel distressed? Are you in a situation that you don’t know what you will do?
Like King David are you in a situation humiliating by people around you because of your faith?
Did you feel grief because people you might know have the same faith as you have, but they were doing as if they have no God? And they push you to do the same works they were doing?
REMEMBER whatever situation you have, even it is a distress that pushes you to step back and do what people around you and have sinned against God; DO WHAT KING DAVID DID FIRST: PRAY
THEREFORE YOU’LL BE BRAVE ENOUGH TO:
1. TRUST IN THE LORD
2. REJOICE IN THE LORD
3. BE STILL AND LET THE MIGHTY WORK OF GOD WORKS IN YOU.
Brethren, God
will give you the peace that you’ve to need and deserve.
HIS ABUNDANT MERCY BE WITH YOU AS YOU CONTINUE DOING HIS WILL.
TO GOD BE THE
GLORY!
