TEN COMMANDMENTS
Exodus 20:3 - 16
3. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; [6]
4. Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. [7]
5. Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. [8]
6. Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. [12]
7. Thou shalt not kill. [13]
8. Thou shalt not commit adultery. [14]
9. Thou shalt not steal. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour. [15]
10. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's. [16]
TEN COMMANDMENTS
The verses above are very familiar to every one of us. It is called the Ten Commandments.
Yes. Believers and non Believers are familiar with these verses. Right?
If you asked this with someone, definitely they will answer you, As it is written above (in order) and or disarrange (mention one by one) at least they will answer you what is written in the Ten Commandments.
And some churches, the Ten Commandment was written as a display before you entered the church premisses.
Recently, the questions: "what is the reason why the Lord gave these commandments?" and "what is written in the Ten Commandments are exactly what the Lord wants, or there something God wants to tell us? is running through my head.
While thinking that the Lord planned to give this commandment with His nation through Moises is before they sinned against God through the golden calf.
Meaning, in the beginning, the Lord has His reason why He made this. Right?
THE LORD HAS HIS REASONS IN EVERY DECISION HE MAKES.
The Lord has His reasons why He made the Ten Commandments not only for the Israelites in the time of the Old Testament but also, for all His believers that can read EXODUS 20 at this time.
Do we know what the Lord wants to express in these commandments?
We just know that the Lord is mad or angry with what the Israelites did. Right? Because of the context of this chapter 20 that the Israelites, did worship other gods.
To be clear, the Lord knows His nation from the beginning. FROM. THE. VERY. BEGINNING.
He knows that the nation He chose is a nation that is a worshipper of other gods, hardheaded people, a nation that easily forgets the faithfulness and goodness of the Lord, murmurers, and a compromised nation.
On this, the Lord puts knowledge to every man He called as His own. Therefore, the Ten Commandments are one of the knowledge that God imparts to His believers. To all Israel at that time.
Hosea 4:6 "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children."
The verse above is the reason why the Lord imparts His knowledge to all His believers. For us not to be destroyed.
The word destroyed in Hosea 4:6 means failure or perish. Fail or perish here is equivalent to death.
For the Lord never thinks for the destruction of His people, but He always thinks for the betterment of them.
The destruction of men, especially His believers are not God's plan ever since.
THE LORD'S PLAN WHY HE DID THE TEN COMMANDMENTS?
1. He did those to prevent His nation to sin against Him.
2. The Lord wants His people to understand Him better.
3. The Lord wants His people to have fear with Him. Exodus 20:20 "And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not."
4. The Lord wants to set boundaries for His nation against other ungodly nations.
5. The Lord wants His nation to be separated from other nations.
Israel is very precious to God, He wants His nation to be LIKE HIS OWN IMAGE.
Image as HOLY. he wants His nation to be a holy nation. Numbers 15:40 "That ye may remember, and do all my commandments, and be holy unto your God."
The Ten Commandments are not just a reminder for all of us who read, know and memorized these verses.
But it is a COMMAND that we need to follow, apply, and live through it. This is also a way for us to be HOLY before God.
Brethren,
If we seem that these Commandments are just simply as it is written to follow by and through us, it is also simple for God's believers to obey those.
How sad it was? That these are the first commandments that were written by God through His own hands, but these are also the commandments that we first broke God's heart.
Yes, we're not perfect, but I know in a way we can do this through God's strength, wisdom, knowledge, grace, and mercy.
Through the Holy Spirit of God that is working in these last days, we can remember these commandments of God.
TO GOD BE THE GLORY
I pray that all of us be sensitive in what the Holy Spirit of God dictating us especially in doing what is good in the sight of the Lord. I pray all of us to be a doer of the commandments of God in these last days.
I plead the blood of Jesus to cover us all in all harm, in Jesus' name, Amen.
